Judge Cautioned Johnny Depp Fans Who Erupt In Laughter During Court Proceedings

On Monday, Judge Penney Azcarate cautioned the courtroom attendees to maintain order or be removed from the proceedings after laughter broke out when Johnny Depp struggled to remember movies he’s acted in.

With Depp on the stand, his legal team followed up after his cross-examination. His lawyer asked Depp to list his movie franchises, and he could not answer the question.

“I’m so pathetic when it comes to knowing what movies I’ve done,” Depp said. “I’m sorry. I just, I don’t watch them. I feel better not watching them. What was the question again?”

Several people broke out in loud laughter, cueing Judge Azcarate to say, “Order in the court, or I will have you removed. Understood? Thank you.”

Depp sued ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation with a $50 million lawsuit after she wrote a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post about surviving domestic violence. The lawsuit was filed in March 2019, claiming she ruined his career in Hollywood by painting him as an abuser.

In November 2020, Depp resigned from his role in Fantastic Beasts after losing a U.K. libel lawsuit against British tabloid The Sun for dubbing him a “wife-beater.” The court ruled the tabloid’s claims were “substantially true” after hearing Heard testify. In March 2021, Depp attempted to overturn the decision, but it was overruled.
