Will Smith is mobbed by media and fans in New York City leaving his hotel

Will Smith is in New York City and was mobbed by media and fans while leaving his hotel to attend the annual National Board of Review Awards Gala at Cipriani on March 15th.

The winners were announced in December, where Will Smith, 48, received the win for Best Actor for his role in King Richard. Smith portrayed Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, screening in theaters and available for purchase on Amazon and Youtube.

He was seen wearing a dapper brown suit and was presented the award by The Daily Show host Trevor Noah. During his acceptance speech he shed light into the real Richard Williams saying, “When he put the clothes on, he was trying to play a role for the world. He felt like he deserved a certain amount of respect. That dream of a parent for his children. And we all have that thing in us: We have a dream and it seems crazy, the thing that you want to do.”

He attended the event with his King Richard costar Aunjanue Ellis. Bradley Cooper, who starred in Licorice Pizza, the winner for Best Picture, was also there to walk the red carpet.

For the past 30 years, the Best Picture Award has had an auspicious blessing hanging over it. With an exemption of three times, every Best Picture Award winner from the NBR Awards has gone on to receive an Oscar nomination.

Opposite to Smith, Rachel Zegler, 20, took home the award for Best Actress for her part in Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of West Side Story.
