Instagram is hopping on the NFT express.
At SXSW in Austin, Texas, Mark Zuckerberg spoke via videolink and announced that Instagram would be bringing NFTs to the platform soon. He specifically said the following “several months,” but it’s time for Instagram users to get prepared for what is to come.
“I’m not ready to kind of announce exactly what that’s going to be today. But over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in,” Zuckerberg explained.
He didn’t get too specific, but he said that users should eventually be able to bring existing NFTs over to Instagram and “hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment.”
Meta is not the only social media platform adopting the crypto and NFT space. Twitter recently launched a feature that allows iOS users to subscribe to Twitter Blue and use NFTs as profile pictures.
In January, The Financial Times reported that Meta aimed to accomplish the same thing that Twitter Blue does. Their sources said they also want to create a marketplace to trade NFTs.
“I would hope that you know, the clothing that your avatar is wearing in the metaverse, you know, can be basically minted as an NFT, and you can take it between your different places,” Zuckerberg said, “There’s like a bunch of technical things that need to get worked out before that’ll really be seamless to happen.”
